TRUE BEAUTY & VIRTUE MENTORING PROGRAM

Where it all began...

In 2017, Virtue in Christ began working year-round with teenaged girls in the West Baltimore community of Sandtown-Winchester to help them cultivate positive Christian character traits, and encourage their work in the community and in the church. Now on a regional level, Virtue in Christ has stepped in to provide mentoring and leadership training in the mid-Atlantic. This work is complementary to the work already being done by community partners and the  Church of Christ in Sandtown.

The True Beauty and Virtue Mentorship Program is a vehicle for mentoring young ladies, founded on Christian principles, and designed to imbue participants with decorum, self-respect, integrity, and Christian accountability in all situations. The program is designed to help ladies as young as 5 years of age maneuver life’s challenges by building self-esteem, self-efficacy for good behavior, and personal refinement through the advancement of Christian principles and personal development. It   

will provide girls with consistent mentoring, leadership development, educational support, life-skills training, confidence-building activities, and opportunities for positive community engagement, including travel to retreats and fellowships. Through our mentorship, participants will achieve the following outcomes: 

1. Development and exhibition of an esteemed sense of self 

2. Development of self-efficacy for personal motivation to respond constructively to challenges

3. Development of self-efficacy for servant leadership behaviors and decision-making skills 

4. Development and exhibition personal responsibility traits while  working toward personal and educational goals

5. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Christian values of participation in community service 

6. Dedication to continued self-reflection and self-improvement 

Volunteer mentors are paired with young ladies and will spend a year role modeling Christian principles, enjoying virtual or in-person fellowship, giving advice, and discussing issues important to the young women, especially as it pertains to obedience to Christ.
